Biography: Neve has been described as “beautiful", “dedicated", “serious", “unique" and “passionate". “Passionate" seems to be a word specially invented for the young woman whose character, the worldly Julia Salinger on Fox’s smash drama Party of Five, struck a chord with audiences and critics alike as a strong feminist and a fresh face within the blandness of television. A hard worker, Neve has been known to frequently put in 18-hour days on the production of Party of Five while juggling a busy film career during breaks in taping. Born into a family of performers, Neve first caught the acting bug after witnessing The Nutcracker at the age of 6. Inspired to enroll in ballet, a 10-year old Neve soon caught the attention of the world-renowned National Ballet of Canada. After 5 years of rigorous training Campbell came to terms with the stress and demands ballet placed on her. She made the pivotal decision to quit the prestigious company and make the leap into acting. Almost immediately her experience landed her a part in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, a role she would handle confidently for over two years and 800 performances. Canadian commercials, television movies and a small feature film, Paint Cans, soon followed on Neve’s short journey to celebrity status. US audiences caught their first glimpse of the talented actress when MTV aired several episodes of the Canadian series Catwalk, but wasn’t until Neve starred in NBC’s movie I Know My Son is Alive that she would get her first big “break”. NBC producers, pleased with her performance, invited her out to Los Angeles “to get a better feel for the American television industry". The trip westwards paid off as Neve Campbell won a role on a new Fox pilot, Party of Five. The rest is history… With an appealing cast that included Matthew Fox and Scott Wolf, young TV audiences took to the show and ensured its survival, along with its success. Critics took notice not only because of its popularity with fans, but for the quality of acting it displayed. With so many over-played plots and stale talent, Party of Five became unique in the boldness of its writing and the aptitude of its stars. Neve Campbell’s success on Party of Five has recently been matched by her success on the silver screen. Playing a series of strong roles in dark films, Campbell has carved a piece of Hollywood in such popular movies as The Craft, the Scream trilogy, and the sexy Wild Things, co-starring heavyweights Kevin Bacon and Matt Dillon. Recent roles have included the disco-induced 54 and the romantic comedy Three To Tango. Campbell recently taped the sad finale to the Party of Five series, but
she seems destined to stay in the minds and the hearts of fans everywhere.
